Resilience

re·sil·ience (noun) 1. the capacity to recover quickly from difficulties; toughness. 2.  the ability of a substance or object to spring back into shape; elasticity. Black grandmothers have a lot to teach us about life in general, and about resilience in particular. They are lauded for their resilience amidst seemingly insurmountable circumstances. Somehow they make it through. Resilience unpacks how black grandmothers “get” and “got over.” It captures the strategies black grandmothers use to propel themselves and their families forward. Resilience is an honest portrayal of how black grandmothers respond to the challenges they face. What so many do is short of miraculous.
